Burning Man Essentials, Ropes and Knots Yo!

Yo friends…as we all get ready to burn, you most likely have been introduced to a plethora of checklists.  One of the things I never see on those lists is rope and how to tie knots.  Going on my 4th trip to Black Rock City, believe me when I tell you if I had a penny for every time a rope and knot would have solved someones problem or prevented injury at Burning Man, I’d be on my own island right now.
With a good rope, you can secure shade structures & tents, make a swing, tow a vehicle and tie down lots of things that might fall on someone (or just tie someone up;) it’s your call.  Ropes are typically less expensive, more versatile and longer lasting than those nylon straps and ratchets, which, lets face it often end up rusted or stuck.  A simple rope and knot can be quick to setup, and super easy to take down, especially when you are sun burned, partied out and half your crew left without saying goodbye.
The knots I have found most useful on the playa are Half Hitch, Overhand, Bowline, and Truckers Hitch.  Below you can find a link to one of my favorite sites that teaches you how to tie these using animations and videos.

Magic Carpet Ride by Wes Smith

Hi friends….my third studio album, Magic Carpet Ride, is on the loose.  Albums are always special to me because unlike a club banger or EP of singles, an album is a cohesive collection of work that flows from end to end (and meant to be listened to that way) around a fun idea.

Like my previous two albums, there’s a lot of ghetto funk and hip hop influence wrapped up with an arsenal of current EDM and Bass heavy sounds.  So kick back in your favorite lawn chair, bust it out buy the pool, or put it on repeat for that road trip…most of all, have fun.  Oh, and thanks for all your support over the years;)

Official label blurb as well as the Promo Mix, The Armory Mix, and Other fun stuff here [Link]!

Magic Carpet Ride is a journey through the vast ocean of influences that have shaped Wes Smith’s party rockin’ audio landscape.  I’m Trippin’ kicks off the ride with a taste of Summertime funk.  Yabadabbadoo and Rock the Jam continue the low end hustle and drop you off at the upbeat vocals of Body Move.  All About The Funk and Feels Good bring the four to the floor vibes pushing you squarely into the breakbeat rhythms on Back Again.  Before you surface, the ragga vibe on Murdera sends you on one more deep dive before blazing out on Down Town.

Juice Night Out at Electric Love Festival, July 28-31st, 2017 (BC Canada)

Yes, headed to visit our Northern neighbors and sound off at the first official Juice Night Out session.  DJ ShOOey, Groundskore and yours truly will be kicking off the Nest stage on Friday night and sending you into ELF orbit for the stellar weekend line up.  Here’s a little official 411 on all of us;)

Wes Smith is a DJ and Producer based out of San Diego, CA. His floor filling single “Bring Back That Funk” camped out at the Beatport Breaks #1 spot for more than 30 days and nearly 150 days in the top 10. His DJ mixes and music are featured on top podcasts, radio shows and labels. His main floor live sets run the genre game with funk fueled beats, bass and vocals. Wes is the Juice Recordings label boss, chief sticker bomber and creative force behind The Juice Squad.

ShOOey discovered her love for house music in the Chicago club scene in 1997 but it wasn’t until she moved to San Francisco in 2003, where she learned the art of DJ’ing and the beauty of moving and shaping a dance floor. ShOOey is a prominent member of the SF-based Space Cowboys music collective, where you can hear her body-rocking breaks and house sets. With a massive following on the playa and beyond, ShOOey is known for the infectious energy that she brings to the dance floor!

Hailing from Vernon BC, GroundsKore never fails to bring those funky fresh breaks to the tables and get that dance floor bouncing. Thus far he’s dropped two charting releases on two different labels (Bassbong Records; Juice Electronica) and has his second release on Juice Electronica dropping in the near future. Also a resident DJ of the BC interior’s ‘hi, society music festival’ among many others he makes his rounds to, GroundsKore has been keeping himself pretty busy, and has a lot more in store for the future.
